COVID-19 Pandemic causes Nintendo to cancel online event

Discovered by user jc726 on Reddit, a hidden page has been found on Nintendo's SuperMario35.com website. The page, currently located at Mario.Nintendo.com show details of an event than never came to fruition, likely due to the coronavirus pandemic.

The event, which was to take place from April 14th to April 21st, 2020, pit players across the globe against one another in a Ninji speedrun course in Super Mario Maker 2. The players with the top 35 times by the end of the event were to take home a commemorative medal.

The web address has not been updated since April, which means this event has likely been completely cancelled for the western audience.

A similar event, if not the same one, is still planned to take place in November for Nintendo gamers in Japan, and even gives us a glimpse of what the medal looks like.

Screenshots of the website can be seen here:

So what do you think, gamers? Will Nintendo of America bring this event back, or are we doomed to miss out on the opportunity to win this amazing collectible?
